F790AIR Firmware Upgrade Procedure

Two (2) firmware upgrade methods are supported for the F790AIR dashcam. Method #1 is recommended as it is the simplest and reduces the risk of update interruption. Please follow the steps below to perform the FW upgrade.

How to check the Current F790AIR Firmware Version

Method #1 (Recommended): Update Dashcam via Smartphone Wi-Fi connection

Requirements

iPhone or Android smartphone
Thinkware Dashcam Link mobile app
Temporary disabling of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (Required to prevent wireless disconnection during the firmware update process)

Procedure

Prepare the vehicle
- If the vehicle is equipped with wireless CarPlay or Android Auto, turn off the vehicle’s radio/infotainment system or disable Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- This prevents automatic reconnection that could interrupt the firmware upgrade.
Install the Thinkware app
- Download the Thinkware Dashcam Link app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Connect to the dashcam
- On your smartphone, connect to the dashcam’s Wi-Fi network.
- When prompted, enter the default Wi-Fi password: 123456789.
- Open the Thinkware Dashcam Link app.
Download and install the firmware
- Once connected, the app will automatically prompt you if a new firmware version is available.
- Tap “Download” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Complete the update
- Wait for the dashcam to announce:
  “Successfully updated, continuous recording will now start.”
- The firmware upgrade is now complete.

Method #2: MicroSD Card Update via PC

Requirements

Windows 11 or macOS PC
MicroSD card reader (built-in or external USB reader)
F790AIR firmware update files
F790AIR MicroSD card

Procedure

Download the firmware
- ⬇️ Download Firmware V.1.01.01
- Unzip the firmware package. (The folder contains two files.)
Prepare the MicroSD card
- Insert the MicroSD card into your computer.
- Copy both files from the unzipped folder to the root directory of the MicroSD card.
- Safely eject the MicroSD card from your computer.
  (Right-click the MicroSD card drive and select Eject.)
Install the firmware
- Insert the MicroSD card into the F790AIR dashcam.
- Turn the vehicle ignition to the ON position (continuous recording mode).
- The dashcam will announce:
  “Update will now start – Do not turn off the system.”
- During the update, the Status LED will cycle Blue / Red / Green.
Complete the update
- Wait for the dashcam to announce:
  “Successfully updated, continuous recording will now start.”
- The firmware upgrade is now complete.
